PROSTHETIC TREATMENT

Prosthodontics is a topic that concerns dentists who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment planning, restoration and replacement of teeth. Its focal points include, but are not limited to, crowns, dentures, and cosmetic implants. Prosthodontists have attained a higher level of education and received extensive state-of-the-art training for three or more years after completing dental school.

Prosthesis is the field of dentistry where artificial teeth are placed in place of missing teeth. Fixed or removable prostheses are made according to the number of missing teeth, the location of the missing teeth and the condition of the surrounding tissues.

While other tooth replacement methods are still used today, dental implants are the gold standard for a reason. Dentures are designed to stay in place by suction or clasping your remaining teeth.

While they fit perfectly when you first get them, the natural bone loss that occurs in missing teeth can cause them to lose their fit over time, causing patients to experience embarrassing shifts on a regular basis. Bridges are another common tooth replacement option, but they require reduction of healthy tooth structure for crown replacement.

Implants do not cause any of these problems. Because your new restorations are permanently fixed in your mouth, you can enjoy talking and eating without worrying about your teeth slipping out of place.

Crowns and bridges are usually made using porcelain superstructure. Metal alloy or zirconium is used in its infrastructure. In the anterior region, only porcelain crowns can be made for aesthetic purposes (impress). Lamina, which is applied only to the front surface of the teeth, is also a fixed prosthesis. Since all fixed prostheses cannot be removed, attention should be paid to their cleaning.

Removable prostheses are prostheses made of acrylic that patients can put on and take off. When choosing teeth for removable dentures, porcelain or acrylic teeth are optionally used for anterior teeth and acrylic teeth are used for posterior teeth. Removable prostheses can be made with tooth or implant support. The removable prosthesis, which is applied by making crowns on some teeth, where the clasps (hooks) are not visible, is also called a precision-retained prosthesis.

Total dentures are made for patients who are completely edentulous. If fully edentulous or partially edentulous patients do not want to use removable dentures and their jawbone is suitable, implants can be applied to these can use fixed prosthesis.
