We all have wisdom teeth, but when is it time to keep them or let them go? At your last dental examination, your dentist may have informed you that it is time for the teeth to be extracted. While this may make you feel anxious, you will find that wisdom teeth removal is common and simple.
WHAT ARE WISDOM TEETH?
Wisdom teeth are your third molars, which live far behind your gum line in your upper and lower jaws. They usually lie below the gum line and grow as they push on your teeth as they try to come out of the gum line. Typically, this happens for patients aged 17-25 years. Our clinic will use an X-ray to determine where your wisdom teeth are growing and where it may affect your teeth. Not every patient has to have their wisdom teeth removed, but most patients do because their oral health can be adversely affected by these molars.
REASONS FOR WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION
There are several reasons that may suggest extraction of wisdom teeth, either single or combined. A dental X-ray is needed to understand how these molars will affect your teeth. It’s best to have this checked in late adolescence, as it can help with fewer complications later on.
You should have an oral examination by our clinic to determine whether it is time for wisdom teeth to be extracted. You can book now or visit us.
